The state of Togo aims to promote the cinema of its country, which is why a Cinema Code has just been adopted in this West African country.
It is a new era which is opening for cinema made in Togo. On Tuesday, September 21, during the third plenary session of the second ordinary session of the year 2021 and in the presence of several local filmmakers, the deputies of the Togolese National Assembly unanimously adopted the Cinema and Animated Image Code. A code comprising 227 articles divided into 10 titles and which aims to provide the cinema sector with a dynamic legal and economic framework, attractive in line with cultural policy and the strategic plan for cultural action covering the period 2014 -2024.
This law thus reinforces the Togolese legal arsenal to protect the creativity of actors, artists and anyone involved in the process of cinematographic creation. Concretely, the Cinema and Animated Image Code will help for the creation of the national cinema and animated image center, the national cinema support fund and the professional training of the various actors to make Togolese cinema more competitive. The Minister of Culture and Tourism of Togo, Kossi Gbényo Lamadokou, did not fail to express his gratitude to the National Representation for its availability which made it possible to adopt this law:
“By allowing our country to acquire this code, you have just concretized the will of the highest authorities of the country under the leadership of the Head of State, His Excellency Mr. Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, to make this sector a real cultural industry, a catalyst which will allow in particular filmmakers to emerge both nationally and internationally. We salute the relevant contribution of deputies from the study to the adoption of this law. “
The fruits of this new law are therefore eagerly awaited to allow Togo to play its card on the African cinematographic chessboard.
