From 8 to 12 June 2021, the public of Yaounde will vibrate to the rhythm of FESTICO. The International Festival of Comic Images will hold its 9th edition in the Cameroonian capital. The programme includes numerous film and web series screenings, workshops and training sessions.
The organising committee of FESTICO unveiled the broad outlines of its 9th edition during a press conference held on 2 June at the Sita Bella hall in Yaounde. The International Festival of Comic Images will be held this year under the theme: Comedy for the resilience of populations in times of crisis. A theme that fits well with the global health situation still marked by the presence of Covid-19. The festival will start on 8 June 2021 with the opening film Amour Kreyol by Guyanese MR Ringuet.
During the press conference, the general delegate of the festival, Ferdinand Engo, unveiled the major articulations of the festival. In addition to the screenings which will take place at the Sita Bella hall and in several localities in Cameroon (Okola, Evodoula, Monatele, Obala) thanks to the assistance of the Cinéma Numérique Ambulant (CNA), two master classes will be given by the filmmakers Françoise Ellong and Ghislain Amougou. Françoise Ellong will lead a masterclass on filmmaking and Ghislain Amougou will explain to participants how to create a web-series. There will also be an introductory workshop on Première Pro led by Bigi Ranson Bunyui and a forum on the relationship between documentary and comedy led by the Association of Cameroonian Documentary Filmmakers (ARDC).
About 50 films from all over the world will be screened during the festival. Among the films that will be screened is the series Clinik Vip by Roger Nankap, which will have its premiere screening on 09 June. This year, Gabon is in the spotlight with a special focus on web series from this country. A total of 5 Gabonese web-series will be screened.
