The 24th edition of the Ecrans Noirs festival ended on November 07, 2020 with a closing ceremony at the Convention Center of Yaoundé during which several awards were given. Congolese film Heart of Africa directed by Tshoper Kabambi won the highest price of the festival, the Gold Screen.
For 7 days, the Ecrans Noirs 2020 festival screened nearly 80 films (fictions, documentaries, series) to the delight of the large audience. At the end of this week full of film screenings, training workshops, forums, the closing ceremony rewarded the films which stood out and which struck the eyes of the members of the jury. In the international feature film category, Congolese film Heart of Africa by Tshoper Kabambi won the most prestigious award, the Gold Screen.
Heart of Africa tells the story of Ngandu, a young Congolese who seeks to flee his past and becomes a missionary. In this new life that he decides to lead, he will meet Martin, a white man. With Martin they will have to face the prejudices linked to their respective race. Beyond all that, Ngandu’s past that he believed he had left behind will resurface.
The film shooted in lingala, english and french carries a message of love and brotherhood, which is certainly the reason that prompted the jury of the international feature film category of the Ecrans Noirs festival to give this film the greatest award. The jury for this category was made up of Kareyce Fotso, Hakim Abdelfettah, Mouna Ndiaye, Cynthia Elisabeth Ngono, Mansour Sora Wade.
A reward that comes in addition to the many others that the film has already garnered. The film premiered on March 11, 2020 in the Utah region of the United States
