A film festival that aims to promote the works of young Cameroonian filmmakers. 2 short films at the opening ceremony
Several films will be screened during the festival. If the overall selection is not yet known, we nevertheless know which two films will be shown to the public at the opening of the festival on February 11th at The Sita Bella Hall of Yaoundé at 7pm. Into the Den directed by Joseph Akama and One Week directed by Rostand Wandja. Both films deal with strong themes and feature good calibre actors.
Into The Den
It is a psychological Thriller that takes us into the life of a young student, Owona, played by Landry Beyeme, who arrives in town and finds himself trapped by dark forces. We won’t say any more so as not to spoil anything… But during the 35 minutes of the film, the director manages to take us into a dark and intriguing universe. A somewhat complex universe, but one that describes many realities contemporary to Africa. The director, Joseph Akama, gave us an long interview to tell us about the contours of this project. The film, produced as part of the “10 Days for 1 Film” programme initiated by the Goethe Institut Kamerun, was officially released last November during the 24th edition of Ecrans Noirs. . In addition to the remarkable artistic and technical research work, the film is supported by a quality cast. In addition to Landry Beyeme, the cast includes Kofane Assala, Carolina Dienber and Jean Marc Cédot.
One Week
This new short film, directed by Rostand Wandja, is a family drama like many in our societies. Only here the film tries to take us to understand the drama that shakes the Ebanga family and to discover what are the responsibilities of each other. The story revolves around the mourning of Mrs Ebanga, played by Virginie Ehana (Innocent-e, 2019) and the guilt that runs through her husband (Ferdinand Tiognou), her son (Ashan Nguetse) and especially her daughter played by Mildred Mvogo, with whom the relationship was continually strained. With this 17-minute short film, Rostand Wandja returns with a new film that remains in the social and family register that has always embodied his previous short films. A film that goes to the essential with a minimalist and simple direction.
Rendezvous is therefore set for 11 February 2021 at the opening of the Young Filmmaker’s Day .
