Only a few days left and the Ecrans Noirs film festival will start its 26 edition. The editorial team of your magazine went through all the films in the official selection (around sixty!). In this article we propose you a list of films (the Ayila selection) that you should not miss during the festival to be held in Yaoundé from October 1 to 08, 2022. A selection based on a number of technical and artistic criteria but also on the sensitivity of our team. Feature films fiction, short films fiction, feature documentaries, series and tributes, we are very happy and excited to reveal our selection. Freda by Gessica Généus
It will certainly be one of the favorites during this edition of Ecrans Noirs. Freda by Gessica Généus after a wonderful tour at the Cannes Film Festival, the Fespaco and many other festivals arrives in Cameroon for the great pleasure of film lovers. The film that continues to garner rave reviews around the world transcribes realistically the daily life of the inhabitants of Haiti, small island whose natural disasters, Scandals and political crises do not always contribute to giving it a brilliant image. It is also in this chaotic context that the film was written and directed by Gessica Généus. A film to see absolutely!
Planter’s Plantation by Young Dhingha Jr
This is one of the most anticipated Cameroonian films of this year in Cameroon. The young team behind the film offers a period film and takes us to the city of Isambile in 1960. A big challenge on the artistic level to recreate the universe of this era. In the main role we will find the Nigerian actor: Nkem Owoh. This film will also be a favourite candidate for the best Cameroonian feature film award.
Lingui by Mahamat Saleh Haroun
This is the new film by Chadian filmmaker Mahamat Saleh Haroun. It must be said that each new film by this filmmaker is an event in itself. Not only because he is the only known Chadian director, but also because he has developed over the years a particular aesthetic and artistic approach with each of his films. He will be one of the favourite candidates for the Ecrans d’Or, the highest award of the Ecrans Noirs festival which rewards the best feature film in international competition.
L’Accord by Frank Thierry Lea Malle
Second feature film by Cameroonian filmmaker Frank Thierry Lea Malle after Innocent(e), the film will be one of the favourites for the Best Cameroonian and Central African film awards. The film, which involves two families of different social classes in the Cameroonian political capital, is a continuation of the social films that have become the trademark of the director and his production company Inception Arts and Com.
J’irai au Diable by Ismahane Lahmar
J’irai au Diable is a Tunisian film that tells the story of Najet, a 40-year-old woman who has only one month left to live. No time to waste. Instead of feeling sorry, Najet, decides to take life with her body, to drink, laugh, sing and above all organize her big departure. A film, hymn to life, to discover!
Habiba, Un amour en confinement by Hassan Benjelloun
The film tells the story of Habiba, a young woman passionate about music who, because of Covid-19 restrictions, is forced to live with her teacher. By revealing pieces of their lives, a love story is born between these two people who share a common passion for music.
Love Trap by Cosson Chinepoh
Another Cameroonian film much awaited by the local public, Cosson Chinepoh’s Love Trap will also be one of the films to discover and a candidate for the award for best Cameroonian feature film. On the screen of this film is a mixture of romance, drama and thriller the actor Epule Jeffrey and the model and miss Cameroon 2013 Valerie Ayena.
Parcours by Saïd Bongo
The crew of this film describes it as a humanitarian film. An arrest to “set up humanitarian corridors in areas devastated by armed conflicts” according to the director. The film tells the story of Bayi, a young woman about 25 years old whose mother is dying. A blood transfusion is needed to save her. Unfortunately, the supply point is in a remote village controlled by rebels. No volunteer wants to brave the danger. Bayi then decides to go there herself. The film will also be a good candidate for the best feature film Central Africa.
Souad by Ayten Amine
Souad, a 19-year-old girl, lives with her conservative family in the city of Zagazig, with her little sister Rabab. A series of small incidents led Souad to commit suicide. Silence swallows everything in the family. Rabab rejects all the explanations for his sister’s death and is determined to understand the true cause of her sister’s despair. She discovers that Ahmed is the central figure of the virtual life of Suad. Rabab travels to see Ahmed in Alexandria, in search of answers.
Maria Kristu de Paul S. Wilo
Budding and curious writer, Buumba, 16, is a traditional follower of the Maria Kristu church. Since childhood, she has been taught that her place in this world as a woman is with her husband.
