After the laudatory journey of “Kasala!” her first feature film, Ema Edosio returns with a second feature film with a very intriguing title: “The Sins of My Father”. Ayila offers you, in exclusivity, some details and photos of the shooting of this new film which has just ended in Lagos.
With Kasala! released in 2018, Ema Edosio has established herself as a director to follow very closely. Not only because of the singular artistic and technical style adopted for this wacky comedy, but also thanks to the rather favorable reception that this film received in around thirty festivals around the world and later by its purchase by the American giant Netflix. A brilliant journey for a first feature film. 3 years later, the Nigerian director, also producer and director of photography, returns with a new feature film. This time, she decides to tackle a genre opposed to her previous film. Ema goes for the drama and offers a film with an intriguing title: The Sins of My Father.
The Sins of My Father, whose post-production has just started is a social and family drama that tells the story of Otiti, a seamstress who decides to take care of her ailing father who abandoned her as a child while her brothers position themselves to grab hold of the inheritance. The story that takes place in the Ojo and Okoko area of Lagos is a social and family drama that addressed the issue of parental responsibility and the repercussions of their actions on children.
The Sins Of My Father explores the consequences of a life full of mistakes.
For Ema, the story of this film is quite personal since it draws on the situations she experienced with her father’s illness in 2020. A situation that literally divided her family. The film aims to take a look at the decisions (mistakes) of adults which later end up having consequences for children and young people. In her presentation note the director thinks that the film also aims to: “highlight the difficulties of aging in Africa, where there is little or no support in terms of health care for the elderly“.
For this new film which should in principle last 1h30 minutes and whose screenplay is signed by Chijioke Ononiwu, Ema called on Gina Castel in the lead role and several other names well known in the Nigerian film industry. We can cite among others: Charles Etubiebi, Tunde Daniels, Yinka Davies, Chimezie Imo, Obi Maduegbuna, Toritseju Ejoh .. The Sins of my Father is produced by Ema Edosio Deleen and Nunu Deng and presented by the company Bliss Productions. The executive production is handled by Clocktower Tax Credits LLC and Jeff Jacobson.
For the moment the film does not yet have a release date but the director of the film has kindly given us a very small extract from a sequence of the film which already gives an idea of what the atmosphere of the film will be like when it comes out.
