The new film by Congolese Macherie Ekwa tackles the highly sensitive subject of sexual violence in Congo.
Macherie Ekwa‘s film opens with a plaque that reveals that the actresses in the film are actually women who have survived rape and other sexual violence. Just after this first punch, begins the speech of the Nobel Peace Prize winner Denis Mukwege, Congolese gynecologist who has dedicated his life to caring for women victims of sexual violence due to the endless conflicts ravaging this central African country. A strong opening that sets the tone and points the finger at the main people responsible for the horrible environment in which the film’s plot unfolds.
