The International Comedy and Comedy Film Festival (FESTICO) will be held from June 14 to 18 in Yaoundé and will celebrate its 10th anniversary during this edition. An opportunity for the festival to offer film lovers many comic films but also many other activities.
The year 2022 will mark 10 years of existence for FESTICO. 10 years during which this festival, dedicated to comic films, will have made its mark and positioned itself as an essential event in the local cinematographic landscape. A result that the festival owes to its dynamic and very talkative founder and general delegate Ferdiand Sylvère Engo, as well as to the great team that maneuvers each year to ensure that the event takes place. Founded in 2013, the festival has given itself the mission of “instilling laughter and good humor in the people” by offering them during each edition a selection of humorous and satirical films from all over the world. For its 10th anniversary, FESTICO will be no exception to the rule and will offer the public around ten films over the 5 days that the festival will last. Burkina Faso will be honored with two films which will be screened at the opening and closing ceremonis of the festival at the Sita Bella hall. They are Sankara et Moi by Laurant Déboire at the opening and Les Trois Lascars by Boubacar Diallo at the closing.
Beyond the film screenings, the FESTICO, which is being held this year under the theme “Booming humor in Africa, an asset for the African film industry” will be marked by several other activities and innovations. These activities almost all revolve around the professionalization of the cinema professions. One thing that goes in line with the ambition displayed by the festival this year and expressed during the press conference to launch the festival on June 3 at the Ubuntu cultural center. “Be passionate about a profession and do it well” declared the general delegate of the festival during the press conference for the many young people who want to make films. And to help them in this direction, several workshops and conferences will be organized every day in the Sita Bella room before the evening screenings.
All the activities of the festival will be held as every year in the Sita Bella room at the Ministry of Communication. At the end of the festival, a set of prizes will be the “Yes Papa” prize, which rewards the career and career of a technician or film actor. This year the opening and closing ceremony of the festival will be presented respectively by comedians: Basseck Fils Miséricorde and Merveille Tchami.
