1- The Wedding Party
First on our list, the movie The Wedding Party. It is certainly one of the most famous Nollywood movies in the world. Released in 2016 and directed in Lagos by Kemi Adetiba, this romantic comedy takes us into Dunny and Dozie’s wedding preparations which turn into a real nightmare when the couple’s parents, their exes and surprise guests decide to orient the things as they please. The Wedding Party written by Mo Abudu, also producer, was selected at the prestigious Torronto International Film Festival and includes in the cast: Adesua Etomi, Banky Wellington, Sola Sobowale, Zeinab Balogun. The film ranked two weeks after its release at the top of the Nigerian box office, outranking American blockbusters. The film is available on Netflix. You will have a great time watching this movie.

3-Saving Mbango
Saving Mbango is a Cameroonian romantic drama directed by Nkanya Nkwai. The film is a real distillation of emotion that takes us on a tumultuous love story between John (Godisz Fungwa) and Mbango (Laura Onyama) in the small village of Mondoni in South West Cameroon. The film produced by Stéphanie Tum is available on Amazon. It’s a must-see movie!
4- Cook Off
Zimbabwe entered the Netflix platform thanks to Cook Off directed by Thomas Brickhill. A warm romantic comedy carried by actress Tendaiishe Chitima. The film, shot on a micro budget and released in 2017, received favorable critical acclaim at several festivals around the world. The film tells the story of Anusu, a single mother who finds love during a televised cooking competition.
5- Mrs Right Guy
Mrs Right Guy is a South African romantic comedy released in June 2016. The film directed by Adze Ugah tells the story of Gugu, a young woman who was abandoned by her husband in a hotel during their honeymoon. She therefore decides to push back all the men who approach her. But she ends up meeting a man who will change her view of men. In the main role we find the actress Dineo Moeketsi. The film is available on Netflix and Showmax.
6- Namaste Wahala
The title of the film already announces the colors. Namaste Wahala (Welcome Problems) is an Indian-Nigerian romantic comedy directed by Hamisha Daryani Ahuj and released in 2020. The cast includes Ini Dima-Okojie, Ruslaan Mumtaz and also Richard Mofe-Damijo. It is a love story between an Indian and a Nigerian that becomes almost impossible when the parents get involved claiming to want to perpetuate their cultures. The film is available on Netflix.
7- Fine Wine
Fine Wine is a 2021 Nigerian romantic comedy film directed by Seyi Babatope. In the cast of this film we find; Richard Mofe-Damijo, Ego Nwosu, Zainab Balogun, Nse Ikpe-Etim. The film tells the story of a rich, lonely man who falls in love with a woman much younger than him and who has to deal with the stigma and prejudice surrounding love affairs between people whose gender gap age is very great. The film is available on Netflix.
