It is on the heights of Mount Manengouba in the small village of Mbouroukou on the Cameroonian coast that the film Chariot Of The Gods was shot in February 2020. It is certainly the most eagerly awaited film of the year 2020 in Cameroon, as its release had been announced for May, unfortunately due to the Covid pandemic19 , the release of the film had to be postponed for 4 December 2020. This film is one of the many film projects that have been able to be made throughout this year despite the pandemic and lock down, demonstrating the extraordinary resilience of the African film industry.
In Cameroon several films were shot this year and several others were officially released to the delight of the public. Chariot Of The Gods directed by Anurin Nwunembom is one of those projects that have truly thumbed their noses at the Pandemic. A film whose official premiere will be held on 04 December 2020 at the Canal Olympia Bessengue cinema , Douala. This film will be one of the films that will close the cinematographic year in Cameroon.
hariot Of The Gods tells the story of Liengu, a 9-year-old girl with albinism who struggles daily to exist. In spite of the many prejudices to which she is victim, she lives a peaceful and joyful life. But when her paternal grandfather, chief of the Bakweri Council of Elders, decides to offer her as a sacrifice to the pagan God Efassa Moto to ward off the misfortune of his tribe, her wonderful little world collapses. In order to survive the threat Kingue, her grandfather, poses to her head, she can count on Margo Etonde, her mother, who is ready to do anything to protect her.
For this film, described by its team as a thriller, producer Lucie Memba and director Anurin have chosen a daring, pan-African casting that brings together both professional actors and leading figures on the African art scene. This choice can be explained on the one hand by the desire to meet the requirements of the script and on the other hand by the desire to give an international dimension to this film. Among these personalities are the Cameroonian singer Locko who makes his cinematic debut through this project, Stéphane Zabavy,, Ivorian actor, singer and host, Charlotte Ntamack, humorist and famous for her role as a parliamentarian in the show Le Parlement Du Rire. Alongside these two personalities, there are already well-known actors such as Cosson Chinepoh, seen in Fisherman’s Diary, St Père Abiassi (La Patrie d’Abord, Le Blanc d’Eyenga), Lucie Memba (Ntah’napi, W.A.K.A) but also lesser known actors such as the heroine of the film Manon Mikon Edale who plays the role of Liengu.
See you on December 4 to discover the film in theaters!
